I recently read a thread on FinTwit about how retail shouldn't really trade and we're better off leaving it to the professionals (I'm paraphrasing)...but an analogy dawned on me this evening while hunting that made me smile.

Excellent analogies. Like your look at importance of humility & simplicity. After 40 yrs of trading, those are most important big time elements.
And, luck works when you work it.
Excellent post! Yes, there is the element of luck but on the other hand, all the luck in the world won't get you a deer if you're at home laying in your bed. Have to be out there.
awesome post! and I almost missed it because I didn't get a notification.
Thanks Horse for this eye-opening message. Love the analogy which even a non-hunter like me can understand
I always out-fish my friends because I acknowledge my luck and harness its energy. I can feel it in my loins, like a sturdy three-legged trade.
Love this post. You have a talent for writing, Horse.
From personal experience, the analogy extends to angling as well. The motivation aspect definitely plays a role here. It wasn't the guys in their $70K trucks towing their $100K boats with radar and 10 different rods that got the best hauls. It was the dudes that scoped out a spot and checked the tide chart weeks ahead, prepped their gear the night before, got up at 2AM to hit the water before sunrise, and fished off the banks. Oftentimes you'd limit out by 8 AM while the other guys are just pulling up to drop their boat in the river.
