How Options Viz works

The Visualizer shows SPX gamma exposure and dealer positioning as they change through the session. Roughly $1.2T in daily notional flows through SPX options across expirations, and when you trade ES futures, knowing where dealers have to hedge is most of the battle.

  1. Hot calls and puts

The two most active call and put strikes by volume: where flow is concentrating right now.

  2. Call and put walls

The largest call or put gamma exposure near spot. Call walls often act as resistance, put walls as support.

  3. Volatility trigger

The largest gross gamma exposure just below spot. If price breaks below it, volatility tends to expand.

  4. Gamma flip

The level where the market crosses from positive into negative gamma, and dealer hedging flows reverse.

  5. Key levels

The next five largest levels of net gamma exposure, labeled in order. These often act as resistance.

  6. Gamma levels

The next five largest levels of gross gamma exposure, labeled in order. These act like magnets, especially with large resting liquidity nearby.

In the last several years, options have become a driving force, changing how markets trade. In particular, that's been true with the S&P 500, with the rise of index options trading and total notional daily flows of about $1.2T across all expirations. In essence, the tail now wags the dog: options notional values and volumes overwhelm those of futures.

Markets and Mayhem created this tool specifically to build a lens into SPX options positioning, or gamma exposure: the model of where dealers may have positioning, plus the prevailing volume flows of the two most active call and put strikes trading.

It is especially useful when you can identify convergences between large levels of resting liquidity (or open limit orders) and important areas of options activity and positioning, which increases confidence that these are levels to watch closely.

Very impressed, and happy I found them. Traderade has been a great resource for me as a trader and investor. The blend of educational content, research, and ideas helps me to have a more complete view of the complex world of finance. The crew at traderade has been like a family since day 1 the discord launched. Trading is a lonely sport but it doesn’t have to be. The team and members have been so open, honest, and transparent in providing information, learning and guidance to all aspects of the financial markets. Micro, Macro, and plenty of laughs along the way each day/night.

This is a diverse group of traders and investors of all levels of expertise and from all over the world sharing ideas and insights. It’s a friendly, fun, and supportive community. I’ve been a member from day 1 and it’s been overwhelmingly positive. My only word of caution would be that this is not a service for people who just want to have trade entries and exits spoonfed to them, it’s a collaborative effort to create sustainable trading success.
Ted S

Mayhem, Ayesha and the rest of the team at Traderade are the best! I’ve looked at other communities and this is hands down the best. Not only because of the team but the other members are awesome and helpful. Then all the tools they have and created. If you day trade you should join but it is always amazing for swing trading and investing which has been more my speed. Can’t praise them enough. In six months my understanding has increased more than in the past 4 years.
Gym S
