Navigating the Market: January 3rd, 2023

Happy New Year! I hope everyone has had a relaxing and festive holiday break. The first trading week of the year brings us just four trading days in the US as our bond, equity, and futures markets will be closed today (Monday). Overall it's a relatively sleepy week with a few noteworthy exceptions.


Economic Events


The week ahead brings us some important economic information to process, with Wednesday being a key day where we get ISM Manufacturing PMI, JOLTS job openings, and FOMC minutes. It will be very interesting to see whether the relative resilience in US manufacturing continues, if the labor market remains tight with about 1.72 jobs available for every person seeking work, and in particular, what the Fed said during its December policy meeting.
